Procter & Gamble announced a commitment at the Clinton Global Initiative to bring clean drinking water to more than two million people in the Horn of Africa through its Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program. Since June, the region has experienced widespread famine due to drought, leaving over 17 million people in need of clean drinking water. This crisis has been identified by the UN as the most urgent humanitarian issue.

P&G and partners, including Population Services International, Save the Children, CARE, AmeriCares, Action Against Hunger, GlobalMedic and others, will provide more than 300 million liters of clean drinking water by providing 31 million water purification packets made by P&G. This commitment is estimated to prevent more than 10 million days of illness in the region and represents a total investment of more than $3 million.

President Clinton joined P&G at an event to announce the commitment. He has said Procter & Gamble’s effort to improve lives with the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program is making a powerful global impact. This is the sixth consecutive year the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program has made commitments to touch and improve lives at the Clinton Global Initiative.
